Wednesday, May 21, 2008
I dropped by at Trillium Car Salon today to have a look with two of Brunei's top drag race car. Both of the cars are sponsored by Trillium Car Salon for this upcoming Drag Race in Miri which is on the 25th May 2008. Both of the car are clean and prepared by Trillium Car Salon.
First up is the Yellow Subaru Impreza STi Version 3 Type RA. Last year, this Subaru conquered the Miri Drag race by placing 1st in class A. This yellow beast blasted the quarter mile in 10.445sec. Well to tell ya the truth, This yellow Subaru Impreza STi is the record holder for the fastest Subaru in Brunei.

Next stop is this 1992 Yellow Honda Civic EG Race Car. This is fine example of a fully race car. This Yellow Civic place second in Group B in Miri Drag Race last year.
The cool features of this civic is its custom made fiberglass front end. The civic front headlamp was discarded to lose weight as well as to keep the front end aerodynamically efficient. The window glasses of the car are also replaced with light weight plastic windows. The car is fully stripped and it is fitted with a roll cage to keep the driver safe in anything goes bad at high speed. The Sparco race seats and a 4 point harness Sabelt seat belts keep the driver in place. The dashboard has been removed to lose weight as only the tachometer and Sparco steering wheel are still intact.
The glory of this Honda Civic race car is its fully modified B18c Vtec engine from a Honda Integra type R. The B18c is mated with 5 speed manual gearbox The sound of the car is truly amazing but ear tearing haha.. I love the sound of it. The car is equipped with full slick tires.

By the way, why are tuned cars illegal? especailly if they are tuned by companies who are expert in them?
Should AMG and Beemer's M division be illegal too? cos they tune engine like silly and puts on lowered suspension and bigger wheels? okay so they are in-house tuners. but how about brabus, kleeman, ac shnitzer, gemballa, RUF, Blitz, HKS? theya re specialist arent they? they are legal in every other country?
So is it illegal because its unsafe? But this specialist tuners have spent thousands of hours in research and development to make it perform better and safer than standard equipment (and hence its legal everywhere else in the world) OR is it illegal cos that makes u look like a boy-racer who likes to speed on the highway??
Then why not make amgs, m-division cars, nsx, rx7, evos, gtr, sti, gti, honda type Rs or anything higher than 100bhp be illegal. cos im sure ppl who bought them didnt by them cos it has more comfy leather seats or the boot space is huge...ppl bought them for the performance the engine sound, the exhaust note, the acceleration and just simply because its the best version and miles better than the standard version.
So i challenge another question. i have a merc W124. amg uses bilstein suspension as oem part for their in-house conversion. but i bought the exact part direct from bilstein ingermany (rather than amg/jati in brunei for obvious reasons) and fitted it by tyremart/shh or any reputable legal professional garage. so my car is now lowered as low as the amg version. soes that make it illegal?

are you sure that subaru is the fastest in Brunei? don't under estimate the other subaru just because they look stock.
May 22, 2008 5:34 PM
Since last year it broke the 10.5sec bracket for a Subaru..well yeah its currently the fastest. Im not underestimating the rest of the Subaru out there..If u have a faster Subaru than that yellow car..Try to time yourself 0-400m lets see if u can beat the 10.445sec..
munman_stk...when it comes to car modification here, its pretty much illegal..The law here is just too tight when it comes to car modification eventhough you and I knows modification are better than stock equipment. The only modifications that are legal are those sports accessories which are supplied at the local dealership such as bodykits and sport alloy wheel.

Carzine & munman_stk:
Pardon me for being out-spoken here but i reckon the land transport authority and officials need to update their bloody regulations and crap policies.
They NEED to get their act together and accept how cars are built according to batch and specs. No in-house tuning company are going to compromise just for your lil niche "fuss-pot" policies.
Seriously come on... there was a point i heard they didn't wanna pass nor allow the registration of the 2008 M3 all because it came with a heavily tinted rear windscreen. Its a standard issue morons! Do you expect the potential buyer to cough up extra just to accommodate your lame policies?? Perhaps LTV muppets should cough up to replace the windscreen.
I've had it to my neck with pointless arguments over petty inconsistent excuses. The level of beaurcratic tape is ridiculous at LTV. Come on... 5months to get 3signatures to approve an "original tuner" body-kit and factory wheels??? I've provided full manufacturer and car factory correspondences as per your request and you still take 5 months! WTF! No sense of urgency!
Furthermore, the cops need to recognize that whatever has been registered on the blue-card is final. No point questioning the authorized after market kits/wheels/exhaust systems etc as per stated.
Recognize that vehicles with certified and approved TUV QC should be deemed road legal. Heck Europe, Aus and US have a more recognized and stern safety standard back here. No question about it!
Hope someone from LTV is reading this cos i am pissed off.

heck... i reckon the gov should legalize whoever wants to build a lil skid pan/track circuit if they have a land big enough.
Think about it... u'll keep enthusiasts off the roads from endangering peoples lives if you permit a track.
Controlled environment vs streets! hmmm... no brainer if you asked me!
May 23, 2008 1:35 AM
right on!! im as baffled as all of u guys. it just doesnt make sense. and the most frustrating bit is that there is almost no rhyme or reason to this so called regulations.
why is tuning such a taboo? or motorsport for that matter? it shouldnt be on the public road i agree, but as aaron suggested: a legal private/public track for motorsport enthusiast? they should be encouraging our nations development in this arena to be honest. one example is our champion yellow subaru owner. it should be sponsored by the land trasnport department in my opinion and then promote safe driving cos motorsport should be on the track!
and whats the obsession with tinting? surely it makes more sense as our country is a tad too hot.
mr.editor: the question is what is the reason or basis for car modification or tuning as i prefer to call it, to be illegal? and which part of modification/tuning is illegal or legal by that mattter?
is any engine tuning illegal? for example then the C63AMG car. that is a highly tuned car more so than the top of the range stock car which is the C350. im sure the C63 isnt just bodykit and wheel upgrades. then if the argument is that amg is an in-house tuner hence approved. so the equipment use in tuning the car is legal right? including the 6.2L engine, the exhaust system, the suspension, the brakes, the rims, the bodykit.
i know for a fact that all in-house tuners use oem parts from the major players in the tuning world and amg are no different. amg suspension are from bilstein, brakes are from brembo, exhaust are supplied by either remus or sebring and even rims are from ronal or bbs. so if these equipment are legal on the amg car that has been deemed legal by land transport, then why cant we be confident that if we buy and use these items by themselves would be legal?
we are not venting anger, but isnt there a clear discrepency and a sheer ignorance in terms of mindset and understanding with the regulations? i would like to make clear that we are not here to atack policies but to have a platform for discussion. we are a forward looking nation with a forward looking mindset. atleast thats what they want us to be. isnt a forward looking nation one that encourages discussion and openess to suggest ideas?
remember: ignorance is the root of all evil
ps. with the environmental concerns at the moment, the land transport deparment does not measure or regulate CO2 emmisions. hence decat-ing ur car to get a more free flowing exhaust would be legal cos its one thing they dont look for! but hey, who cares abt the environment right? we do.

Tuning is not illegal~ when u get to JPD they dun check whether ur car has aftermarket piston, conrod, stroker kit, big turbo-- they are more concern on wheher u change ur coilover, suspension, HID, bodykit and so so....
If u would like to modify a car, modify the internal of the engine and leave the look as stock as possible.
P/S... We are not looking down on other subaru- everyone is welcome to join the race in MIRI... and as long as brunian get number one... no matter if it is EVO,GTR or subaru.. we are still glad.
