Proton Satria R3 race car built by Proton Axle Racing Team
Thursday, May 15, 2008

Proton Axle Racing Team built this red pocket rocket Proton R3 for competing in the AFOS(Asian Festival of speed) 1500Max challenge. I got to admit this R3 looks bada##..The R3 will be driven by Malaysia Ex Formula one driver, Alex Yong..The R3 has been on diet and weight 900Kg including driver. With 120hp engine and a 900kg weight, the weight to power is surely high. Cant wait to see this car in action..check out Supersport channel on Astro and look out for AFOS or Asian Festival of speed.

From the original post:
"With 120hp engine and a 900kg weight, the weight to power is surely high."
Sorry to nit pick, but this power to weight ratio is pretty mediocre in my opinion (133hp/ton). A VW Golf GTI will fetch you around 140hp/ton? A BMW 330 will hit about 180hp/ton. And going a bit mad here; but that Subaru STI you got going on will spin to the tune of 200hp/ton. :D
That said, the Satria will probably still be quick. It has to be. :)

hey bro..please dont compare the weight-power ratios between higher displacement cars hehe..its a 1.6liter engine car..for a 1.6Liter its a serious threat by the way since it is a Normal Aspirated engine..I would love to see it battling out with B16A Vtec Civics or The Suzuki Swift Sport on the AFOS..

Haha, I get your drift, but the Satria in stock form has about 110hp I think. There is also a R3 package for sale (71k ringgit), which swaps out the ECU and Exhaust, taking that to 135hp. So I was just thinking that this is a pretty conservative upgrade...
Whats AFOS btw?

AFOS is Asian Festival of speed...I watched the AFOS way back on star sport channel on Astro..back then it was on the decoder..
AFOS features Touring car racing on Asian Race track such as in Thailand, Macau , Malaysia etc..

Aetaaas,
the car "Only" makes 120hp on the wheel because the rules say so.
any car manufacturer who enters, must meet these requirements.
basically, the organisers want "close racing", but achieved at much lower budgets.
there will also be a portable dyno at each race venue to ensure all teams meet the power regulations. if not, you will be disqualified.
also, as in the tradition of touring car races.. if you win the 1st race, you will incur a weight penalty for the 2nd race.
