Ride Of The Month: October: SUBZERO

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

Here I present the ride of the month for October 2008, SUBZERO. This is one of the most well sought after 2006 Subaru Impreza Wrx Version 9 in Brunei. This Wrx is a good example of well built Form and Function ride. The owner of this ride is the founder and webmaster of Brunei Subaru Club (BSC).

Starting with the exterior and working his way into suspension, wheels, interior and engine his build wrx is an all around well balanced machine. The owner uses a full Zero Sport bodykit for the wrx. Zero sport is a Japanese company that is dedicated in developing racing parts especially for the Subaru vehicles. The menacing front bumper of the Zero Sport screams out “Get out of my way!” The overall look of the car instantly changes from standard to the extreme. An STI spoiler was fitted replacing the standard Wrx spoiler.

A set of Black Racing Pro N1 wheels size 17inch were chosen for the ride and were equipped with Yokohama Advan R1 225/45/R17 Tyres on all four wheels. To improve the handling of the ride, the owner fitted a set of JIC Magic coilovers, front and rear Tanabe Strut Bar. This Wrx still uses a standard Disc brake system.

Inside the cabin, you will find a set of custom red bucket seats, Apexi RSM, Pivot Boost Meter, HKS EVC 4 Boost Controller, HKS FCON VPro ECU and Apexi Turbo Timer. The Apexi RSM is one of the essential equipment for monitoring the engine.

Now that we have talked about the exterior, interior and also under the car, let’s get down to the nitty gritty this is the best feature of this ride. The 2.5liter Turbocharged Boxer engine is nicely upgraded with bolt on performance parts. When you look at the engine at a first glance, you might notice is the aluminium front mounted intercooler piping. The Blitz front mounted intercooler was used to cool off the high powered HKS GT2835 Turbo Charger. A 4x 800cc / Min Power Enterprise Injectors and 255lph Walbro Fuel Pump were used to transfer optimum fuel to the engine. The internal parts of the Subaru Wrx were remaining stock for now. An Apexi air cleaner, a set of HKS Racing Iridium Plugs, HKS Twin Power DLII, HKS SQV Blow off valve, Cuzco Oil Catch Tank and HKS Internal Wastegate were also fitted to the engine. For more efficient cooling of the engine, a Replica Greddy Oil Cooler was used. A Custom 2.5inch to 3inch Downpipe, Custom Full 3inch Mid Pipe and an After Market Marco Exhaust 4inch Tips were used to round out the system. To control the engine air and fuel ratio of this beast, a stand alone HKS FCON V Pro ECU was used. Mr Shumpei Ohura (HKS Master Tuner) was responsible for tuning this ride. With all the engine modifications, the Wrx is now pushing out an impressive 400hp at 1.3 bar boost.

This shows that with proper performance parts and engine tuning, a standard Subaru Wrx are also capable in producing high amount of Horsepower. Congratulations to MrWrxDC5 and Special thanks for sharing his ride with us.
