Thinking of playing Jazz in 2009

2008 Honda Jazz

This is the recently launched Honda Jazz by Happy Motoring Co Sdn Bhd. My first encounter with the new Jazz was in Miri a month ago. The new Jazz is undoubtedly refreshing. Its way better than the 1st one. The design of the exterior is well sought after, no more Minivan look on the rear side of this car. The front end is a mimic to the Civic Type R look. The Honda Jazz comes with a 16inch alloy wheels as standard.

There are two version of the Jazz offered by the dealer, a 1.5Liter Ivtec with 5speed automatic Steering Paddle shifters and a 1.3Liter Ivtec with 5 speed auto or manual transmission. For 1.3Liter ivtec engine it is rated 100hp while the 1.5Liter ivtec engine is 120hp. Pretty good enough for fast pace economical engine.

The car do comes with surprises. Eventhough the shape of exterior is small but the interior is spacious. With multiple configurations of the seats, you can manage to put in a full size bicycle in it. Now that is spacey. What is Jazz without music, the new Honda Jazz comes with an Mp3/WMA playable head unit fitted with a Usb interface for the Ipod Users.

The Jazz comes with 14inch Front disc and 13inch rear disc brake mated with a Honda ABS system to prevent the wheel locking in emergency braking situation. Front airbags also comes in standard.

The Jazz comes in variety of colors; Premium Deep Violet Pearl, Milano Red, Taffeta White, Crystal Black Pearl, Cerrulean Blue Metallic and many more. Happy Motoring Co Sdn Bhd also offers a Modulo bodykit for the jazz as optional accersories.

The price tag for the new Jazz is however a bit pricey, for a 1.5Liter Ivtec(Top range model) $32,990 and for the 1.3Liter Ivtec Auto is $28,990.

The Nissan GTR is a perfect Super car that surpasses our expectation eventhough it is huge in size and over weight. Nissan now built a FIA GT1 ready version of the Nissan GTR. It is lighter and faster and meaner looking. The FIA GT1 version is fitted with a carbon fiber full wide-bodykit, plexiglass windows, GT wing spoiler, big brake kit and new wheels.

This race car is rumoured to be having a V8 engine instead of the 3.8 TwinTurbo V6. It is also rumored that the car is rated at 542Hp and 448 lb-ft of torque with a curb weight of 3,417 pounds.

Another version of the GTR is the LeMans car. It would only be sold to teams competing in the enduro, with a price tag of US$720,000. It got 592 hp with a 506 lb-ft of torque and a weight of 2,976 pounds.

Ride Of The Month: November 2008: H22 Madness

Honda Civics has been around from way back and it has been one of the local crowd favorites since Brunei Drag Racing at National Stadium in 1990’s. The 1992 Honda Civic EG is the best choice for Honda lovers when it comes to modification. Why? Well the Honda Civic EG is light weight, superb suspension setup, and the egg-shaped body design that last for ages and most importantly the engine bay is forgiving for any Vtec engine transplant variation. The Honda EG engine bay is favorable to be transplant with B16, B18, B20, H22, K20 engines. In the US, up until now the Honda Civic EG is one the most highly respected and never ending car that is featured in most well known car tuning magazine.

Here I present to you November 2008 ride of the month, H22 Madness. This is a 1992 Honda Civic EG with few body parts of EG6 (it means the SIR version of the Civic EG) and a heart of a Prelude H22a Vtec engine. Ever since I have first laid my eyes on this civic since two weeks ago, I know something dark lurks inside that clean JDM look.

Underneath the hood lies a Honda BB1 Prelude Vtec engine, 2.2 liter Vtec 4 cylinder powerhouse that is rated 200hp at 6800rpm in stock form. The engine was newly overhauled polished and hand ported cylinder head. The engine mount is custom made to make the 2.2 Liter engine fit snugly inside the engine bay. The H22a engine is lightly modified with bolt on parts such as the Apexi Power Intake, 2.5inch custom pipe from front collector to back and finished off with a custom 2.5inch stainless steel exhaust muffler. HKS oil filler cap was added to enhance the overall engine appearance. Surprisingly with this engine transplant, the EG still maintains its power steering and air conditioner. As for the aircon gas, the owner converted from R12 to R134 gas to keep the cabin temperature cooler during the hot days.

This Honda Civic looks clean, simple and off course has “JDMness” all over it. The owner fitted a custom front bumper, side skirts, rear lip and Spoon sports rear ducktail spoiler. To keep the car weight down, a carbon fiber hood was fitted. The car has just been recently repainted with a Crystal Clear white paint with a high gloss metallic black on the roof. The engine bay was also painted with dull black effect to keep the engine neat and tidy. Another cool thing about this civic is the swapping of the normal EG roof to the JDM EG6 Sunroof complete with interior headliner and OEM sunroof switch. A set of JDM EG6 plastic Headlights and Depo clear side markers replaced the stock ones.

The underbody of car was not left alone; a black anti corrosive paint was applied to the underbody of the car to prevent corrosion. Under the fenders is a set of JDM white BuddyClub P1 Racing Wheels 17X7 inch with offset +35 front and rear wrapped around with Yokohama AVS ES100 205/40/17 tires. The rear drum brake was converted to a disc brake by using a set of JDM DC2 GSR rear disc brakes. All the four brake calipers are painted with signal red. JDM EG6 absorbers with Tanabe springs are fitted to lower the ride height and improve the handling characteristic of the car.

The interior of the car was not left stock by the owner. The owner fitted a JDM EG6 dashboard with white face speedometer, a JDM EG6 front and rear seats complete with a JDM EG6 front door interior panels and JDM EG6 center console box. The driver seat was changed to a JDM EK9 Recaro reclining seats with a genuine quick release 4 point TRW Sabelt Harness. For entertainment, the owner fitted a JVC Head unit with Alpine Type R 5" mid speakers and a 10" Kicker L5 solo baric supported by a 1400watts dual channel amplifier. A Momo steering wheel, zero one motorsports speed cut, speed meter and a pivot baby timer are one of the interior accessories found inside the car. A Do-luck multi color vtec indicator and Genuine DC2 Type R aluminium gear knob was fitted complete with genuine EK9 Type R key. Now that’s what I called complete JDM conversion. A lot of money and dedication was put into the car.

-The Owner Story-

“Well I guess it took me nearly 5 years to get it to like what it is today. It had two different paint jobs but was never satisfied with it, when I first bought the car, it was standard back then, and it didn't even have a/c or alloy wheels. Ever since my child hood, I’ve always wanted to have a car that i can work with, a project that I would turn from "zero to Hero". When I first took in my EG, I knew that this could be "it". Since I was a student back then, I had to rely on my allowance to upgrade my EG. always been a fan of the legendary EG6, I started collecting and buying JDM parts for my car just to make it as civilized as his "half brother". It was after three years I have owned the car I had enough money to transplanted an h22a engine to my car”

”But why an H22a? Well for starters, the H22a is mostly regarded as the "blacksheep" of the Honda family. People would mostly agree that the engine is relatively "heavy" during acceleration. Yes indeed, but if you put that big block engine in a small civic like an EG, the power to weight ratio is absolutely amazing! and the reliability of an h22a is unquestionable. I’ve had my engine for two years now and had not experience any major problems. My friend is also running the same setup for six years and his car is still alive and kicking! That is what I am looking for in a car, one that can give me the power to tailgate turbo cars and yet still maintain that standard engine. It may not be the perfect engine but it is sure a blast to drive! ;) But who know what will happen next right? What I can tell you is that this game will never end. The H22a is like a "Pandora box" yet to be opened, with the right tuning and modification 300whp Na is just around the corner...hehehe”

Once again, I would like to congratulate the owner of this awesome JDM orientated Honda Civic EG.
