Peugeot 308 and Peugeot 207
Saturday, February 28, 2009
Here are the two recent Peugeot model line up available at Peugeot distributor, T.C.Y.Motors Sdn Bhd. The Peugeot 308 and the Peugeot 207.
Peugeot 308
The new 308 reveals its intentions: to seduce you! The 308 brings together the best in technology and design to provide an intense driving experience, in a sophisticated cabin. This exceptional result combines with one of the best environmental balance sheets.
Design
In its own way the 308 expresses the characteristic Peugeot genes, which provide every model of the brand with its distinctive identity.
Comfort
The 308’s semi-high architecture gives a lot of advantages to storage capacity and interior space. The generous front seats, the many, cleaver storage spaces and the interior lighting all enhance the cabin.
In the Peugeot 308, nothing obscures the view. The light comes in mainly through the roof, reaching right to the back, and through the panoramic rear window, which is part of the swathe of windows.
Performance
With its low centre of gravity and wide front chassis track, the 308 gives a dynamic performance on the road. These features are borne from Peugeot’s vast experience and expertise in terms of road holding. The Peugeot 308’s braking performance is amongst the best on the market, thanks to its large diameter disc brakes. The 308 comes with a turbocharged 1.6 litre engine that boasts 140ps. The engine is mated with a 4 speed tiptronic transmission with a sport mode option.
Security
The 308 has only one reason for being: its occupants. That’s why it’s its duty to protect you and your passengers well.
Environment
The reduction of greenhouse effect gas emissions is a priority issue for Peugeot. The 308 has environmental protection built into its design. This approach is reflected in the use of technologies to improve its environmental effectiveness and in the special care accorded its aerodynamic lines.
Technology
The 308 is equipped with Peugeot latest technology, the STOP & START Technology. This “micro-hybridisation” technology places the engine on standby when ever the vehicle comes to a halt (at a stop sign or a red traffi c light, in a traffi c hold-up,etc…) and then restarts it instantaneously (in just 480 ms) without any intervention from the user. This ability, however, is even harder to achieve in the case of diesel engines, particularly an engine of this capacity. In addition, an energy recovery system is included which recharges the battery during phases
of deceleration.
This 308 1.6 litre HDi FAP BMP6 therefore forms a particularly effi cient unit with its economic, high-performance HDi engine, delivering a power of 82 kW (≈112 bhp), its particulate emission filter (FAP) eliminating soot particles, its electronically-controlled 6 speed manual gearbox (BMP6) –improved driveability and reduced fuel consumption –together with the all new STOP & START system.
The latter gives the vehicle a fuel consumption of only 4,1 litres/100 km, the equivalent of 109 g/km of CO2 in the combined cycle. Naturally, the system is even more efficient when used for urban driving (a reduction in fuel consumption of up to 15 % according to traffi c density). It also reduces noise and vibration to a minimum during the car’s stop phases.
Development of the STOP & START system is based on a simple observation: leaving the engine
running with the vehicle at a standstill results in unnecessary fuel consumption and, consequently, CO2 emissions that could be avoided. Now with the electronic management of fuel injection in modern engines, successive start-ups are no longer synonymous with excessive fuel consumption (a restart corresponds to only 3 seconds of idle speed). Today, thanks to reversible alternator technology, the engine can be stopped and restarted automatically andtransparently for the driver, leading to signifi cant gains in fuel consumption and preventing unnecessary noise
pollution, to the greater benefi t of the environment.
The system works as follows:
1- During braking when bringing the vehicle to a halt (at a red traffi c light, a stop sign, queuing
traffi c, etc), the engine switches to standby before the car comes to a complete standstill as soon
as the speed falls below 6 kph. To indicate the engine is in standby an “eco” indicator illuminates on the instrument panel.
2- The engine remains on standby for as long as the brake pedal is applied.
3- When the brake pedal is released, the engine restarts automatically and instantaneously, in a
manner that is totally transparent for the vehicle occupants.
The system can be de-activated by the driver at any time by pressing the “eco off” button on the fascia panel. During operation, the system continuously checks a number of conditions to ensure the engine can be placed and maintained in standby mode (engine temperature and sufficient battery charge level, outside temperature not extreme, reverse gear not engaged, etc.), via the ECU. It should be emphasised that the performance of this system allows it to operate even in sub-zero outside temperatures (down to -5°C).
Awards
Peugeot’s compact saloon car, which has already been awarded three prizes in just one year (the Golden Steering Wheel, a Guinness Record, and Engine of the Year), packs in the best technology and design to offer an intense driving experience in a passenger compartment with a refined character. This outstanding result is also combined with one of the lowest environmental impact levels.
The 2007 Golden Steering Wheel Award
Since its launch, the Peugeot 308 has been awarded the 2007 Golden Lenkrad (Golden Steering Wheel) in Berlin for the compact saloon cars category. This prestigious award has been presented since 1976 by the major German weekly Bild and Sonntag. Upon the completion of in-depth tests and examinations, the judging panel declared that the Peugeot 308 was the model that best fulfilled criteria relating to style, design, comfort, roadhandling, safety, environmental friendliness, quality, etc.
2008 and 2007 Engine of the Year
The 4-cylinder 175 hp Direct Injection Turbo engine confirmed its performance in 2008. For the second year running it was chosen out of 71 competing engines as the “International Engine of the Year” for 2008 in the category for engines with a cubic capacity from 1.4L to 1.8L. The reason for this feat is the exacting attention devoted to the development of this engine, which is the result of co-operation between PSA Peugeot Citroen and the BMW Group.
Guinness Record for sobriety
The 308, which is fitted with the 1.6L HDi 80 kW (110 hp) engine with an FAP dust filter, broke the Guinness record for fuel savings with an average consumption of 3.13L per 100 km and CO2 emissions limited to 85 g/km. It managed to travel 1,919 km running on full 60-litre tank. Environmental efficiency was a major concern during the development of the 308. One of the development orientations was the FAP dust filter, and then there are the Michelin Energy Saver tyres, which enable roll resistance to be reduced by 20% and the vehicle’s recyclability level to be increased, which amount to 99% of the weight of the 308.
