MINI Beachcomber

This is MINI latest concept car, the MINI Beachcomber. The MINI Beachcomber is the nearest resemblance to the long awaited MINI Countryman. The Beachcomber is inspired by the original MINI Moke from 1964 and will be on display at Geneva motor show early March.

No doors just like MINI Moke

“It’s an ideas car that, depending on the sort of feedback we receive, may have a bearing on a future Mini production car,” said the firm’s design boss, Gert Hildebrand. “It’s based on our upcoming SUV but we’ve injected added fun and off-road ability into it that we think could appeal to a certain type of Mini customer.”

The Beachcomber certainly looks like a potential junior off roader with lots of ground clearance, mud terrain tyres and protective cladding. The MINI Beachcomber is the longest MINI ever built, which is 135mm longer than the MINI Clubman. It's wheelbase is also slightly longer than Clubman by 59mm.

There is no detail about the engine used by the Beachcomber by MINI but Autocar can confirm that it will be using the same engines for the Countryman which are the 1.6litre Petrol and diesel engine. The bulge on the bonnet hints the Beachcomber to be using the same turbocharged 1.6litre engine of the Cooper S that gives out 173bhp.
