VW Golf Mk.6

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

The VW Golf GTi Mk.6 is one of the best hot hatches to date. It has gone to many significant improvements since its first debut. The mk.6 has undergone some improvements on the exterior from the previous VW Golf Mk.5 as the mk.6 is inspired by its big brother the scirocco. All the improvements lead the car to achieve "World car of the year 2009" and "TopGear Car of The Year 2009"

At Maju Motors this car will cost up to $59k.

There is very limited GTi mk.6 available in Brunei as they are brought in small batch. And every batch was sold out even without the launching of the car like its base model VW Golf MK.6. For those who wants one have to wait till January next year for a new batch to come in. Luckily for us we featured one that just came out from the showroom.

On the exterior, the head light and taillight ware further enhanced for a meaner look. It still retains the red strip on the grill which is the GTI trademark. Some of the noticable improvement on the rear end of the car is the diffuser like rear bumper and the dual exhaust system. Even the stock exhaust system gives an awesome sound.

The mk.6 GTI is still equipped with the 2.0L TSI turbocharged engine which is similar to the mk.5 however the internals have been strengthen, fuel delivery were improved, oil delivery was improve and even the mapping of the ECU have been improved for better fuel efficiency and better performance the the previous mk.5. It produces 210ps and 280Nm of torque. It is also more efficient thus it uses less fuel and produce less green house gasses to comply the strict emission test in Europe.

To match the performance of the improved engine, it is still mated to the DSG gearbox for lightning quick shift. The DSG also give a distinctive sound when it changes gear in full throttle.

Minor improvement on detail have been done to the interior such as the leather bucket seats and the red stitching on the steering wheel, hand brake and shift knob. Also hidden are the 7-airbags which also includes the drivers knee airbag. Also aiding the Golf to achieve its 5-star ANCAP saftey rating are the ABS, ASR (Anti -Slip Regulation) which is integrated to the ESP (Electronic Stabilization Program) for better safety and better handling.

Miri's Black Knight

Sunday, December 27, 2009

The Proton Satria GTi is one of the best car produced by Proton which is overlooked by most people for its brand. It has superb handling and sufficient power to beat most current cars. Even the latest Proton Satria is no match for the GTi. With Lotus tuned handling, the car gives and excellent cornering ability especially with its light weight body.

Since the older Proton models share some chassis and engine, it is common to see a 4G63 or VR4 engine swap for cheap power rather especially with the 2004 GTi which has Simens VDO ECU which can't be tuned easily with piggyback as it relearns itself. Which is why most tuners opt for standalone ECU like Mircotech.

This is one of the example of a 4G63 engine swap by a friend in Miri. The car was done recently and is an ongoing project. However the owner is lucky enough to get some goodies from the half-cut engine such as the custom intake, Ultra plug cable and TD-05 Turbo. Since this is an old engine, from a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 2 the owner installed Pivot Spark to stabilize the voltage and ensure efficient spark. An oil catch tank was also installed to filter the blow by gas ensuring cleaner turbo and less sludge on the intake sensor and the turbo's inlet.

The owner also installed a fully custom free flow exhaust for better breathing and also can be seen are the GAB Suspension which helps to lower the car and improve the car's handling and surprisingly still has a good comfort. An UltraRacing front strutbar is installed to increase the chassis rigidity. The exterior is further enhanced by the K-Speed 17" wheels wrapped in Silverstone Synergy M5 tyres.

The interior is kept simple with Momo steereng wheels, gauge cluster, Apexi boost meter, Auto Gauge shift light and the Takata Harness to keep the driver in place.

After the photoshoot the owner took us for a short tour to GT Motorsport which was opened a few months ago. The shop offers quality after market price with very reasonable price.

Proton Putra with Evo conversion. This car was in Brunei for Dyno at Hayshi however the power was not revealed.

A Bruneian ride 200sx with s15 front end conversion and with a powerful engine.

This car is being prepped for the Miri Drift event which is coming very soon.

Not forgetting another supplier that made the Satria's modifications possible:
