Back in the 1980s, the Toyota Celica TA22 was the muscle car of the era. The engineers from the land of the rising sun produced it with front face similar to a USA favourite muscle car, Ford Mustang. The Celica TA22 is simply a classic sports car that most of us car fans would love to own. The Celica TA22 is however, smaller in body design and has a “smaller engine” compared to the big guns of the Ford Mustang. Nonetheless, the Toyota Celica TA22 is definitely one of the best Japanese Automobile collectibles.

What you see in front of you is one of the best looking Classic Celica TA22 in Brunei. Unlike the usual “restoration” routine, the owner of this Celica has a different way to build his ride. The owner not only refurbished the Celica’s exterior but also upgrading it to a standard that most of us would ever dream of doing.

The Celica has been repainted from underneath to the top. A JDM front lip and JDM rear spoiler were both added, improving the overall look of the Celica. The owner has chosen a custom made 17inch Work Meister S1 wheels for his Celica. The rear fenders of the Celica were pulled out and reshaped to give clearance for its new wheels. The Work Meister S1 wheels totally look menacing on the Wide-body Celica. The combination of the muscular shape of the Celica TA22 and the Work Meister S1 wheels is like an icing on a cake.

Underneath the hood, the Celica no longer hold the “Normal Aspirated” engine that it used to run with. It is equipped with a 1.8litre turbocharged 4 cylinder twin cam “3T-GTEU” engine. The turbocharged engine is capable of producing 160hp and mated with a standard 5 speed manual transmission. Minor modifications were made to turbocharged engine such as HKS Blow-off valve, 2.5inch straight pipe and a 2.5inch Sports muffler.

According to the owner, the modification work on this car has not yet fully accomplished. This project is still ongoing and here are some hints of its next modification:

- Intercooler
- Turbosmart Blow off valve
- Turbosmart Boost controller
- Reupholster leather interior.
- Replace Gauges with 7 Autometers.
- Replace Front Disc brakes with vented disc brakes
- Replace Rear drum brakes with Vented disc brakes

It will be certain that this turbocharged wide-body Celica will be even better the next time we are going to see it. Thanks to the owner of this awesome classic Celica for sharing his ride with us.

"Hotrod" in the same sentence with "4 cylinder"..... thats like saying Premium European Car brands like the "Prancing Horse of Maranello" in the same sentence with "Proud Supporter of their 4 cylinder variants" hehe, if that owner put carbon fibre in his entire shell with higher performance "4 cylinder" wonder if it gets named as a "Street Rod" instead. Sorry again for pointing this out, it just sounds odd to add Hot Rod with non muscle cars. Anyway I luv the vintage Jap car, that is one mean looking car and the right paint job lagi :) nice

couldn't agree more with Anonymous, hot rod is a different category and class, but thumbs up to the writer for featuring one of the best local classic celica around, I know there're a lot!

I guess the writer is not familiar with the old japanese nostalgic car and muscle/hot rods rides, but i'm not saying this to condemned the writer and please do not take this the wrong way

afterall, we're mad for cars, thanks again for the featured classic car, hope to see more of this Japanese nostalgic car features in your website ;)

Nice!... mixture of old and new, US and Japanese products but I still like the lines of the old school celica.

Good job with the celica, but personally, I still prefer the carburetor engine.
No offense, this is just a personal opinion.
    Apologise for that
